  1. 1Space advantageStart hereMore space means more room for your pieces — so keep them on, and take even more.→
  2. 2The principle of two weaknessesOne weakness can usually be defended. Open a second front and the defence stretches until it snaps.→
  3. 3ProphylaxisBefore you push your own plan, ask what your opponent wants — and stop it first.→
  4. 4Provoke a weakeningForce the opponent to make a small concession — a pawn move that leaves a hole or a hook — then aim at it.→
  5. 5Exchange the fianchetto bishopTrade off the bishop guarding a fianchettoed king and the dark (or light) squares around it are yours forever.→
  6. 6Restrict, then invadeTake every good square away from the enemy pieces first — the breakthrough is easy once they're paralysed.→
  7. 7Don't rush the attackGet every piece to its best square before you strike — a fully mobilised attack plays itself.→
  8. 8Trade off the key defenderThe piece guarding the enemy king or a critical square has to go — everything else follows.→
  9. 9Open the game when you're ahead in developmentMore pieces out than your opponent? Rip the position open before they catch up.→
  10. 10Convert by simplifyingA small material edge becomes a win in a simpler position — trade pieces, keep pawns.→
  11. 11Activity over materialA pawn is a fair price for a lasting bind, open lines, or a lead in development.→
  12. 12The bindA pawn on c4 alongside one on e4 clamps the centre — the Maróczy Bind — and strangles counterplay.→
  13. 13OverprotectionPile defenders on your key square even when it's not attacked — your pieces radiate power from it.→
  14. 14Play on both wingsWith the centre locked, the game is decided on the flanks — open a second front and stretch the defence.→
  15. 15Let the structure choose the planRead the pawn skeleton and it tells you which wing to play on and which break to prepare.→
