What we're building
Skybound Chess is a free chess platform: play instantly against a real engine, or play live against another person, with proper clocks, ratings, and a match history — all in the browser, no install and no account required just to try it out.
Why it exists
Most places to play chess online ask you to sign up before you've even seen the board. We wanted the opposite: open the site, drop straight into a game, and only create an account when you actually want ratings and history to follow you between games.
What's under the hood
Local and engine games run entirely in your browser — the built-in engine is Stockfish, compiled to WebAssembly. Online games are validated on our server so the result is always trustworthy, with real-time moves, clocks, and matchmaking by rating.
